The project file name should reflect this structure: Show Name, Episode, Sequence, and your Initials (two letters, unless otherwise noted)
Template for Storyboard Pro file is available in the pCloud under P:\02-pipeline\templates\storyboard
Included in the file is a Title Card template for pitch purposes and the Prop Safe card. NOTE - you do not need to do letterboxing for your boards, this is applied in post. Just keep in mind the safe areas while you are making your compositions.
Please include a Title Card at the beginning of each pitch. Please fill out Episode #, Sequence name, your name in the place of "Board Artist", and the Version Number + Pitch Date.
When saving your project, please save as a packed file .sbpz and not a single file .sboard. This helps streamline the board process and help with storage/optimization.
We are working in 16:9 aspect ratio - your working size can be set at 1920x1080 at 24 FPS.
Please leave all other settings at default:
Colour Space: sRGB
Camera Size: HDTV_1080p24
Field of View: Vertical
Exporting for Pitching: PDF panels
To turn Dialog Captions on, click on the furthest paper icon to the right and select EDIT PROFILE.
Navigate to the CAPTIONS tab at the top and sync up to these options.
For pitch meetings, you have the option of manually pitching via .PDF or exporting a Quicktime.
For manual pitches:
Please export as Single-Panel Full Page .PDF under FILE -> EXPORT -> PDF. Please make sure Dialog Captions are included in the export.
File name for your pitch material export (for either .PDF or Quciktime) should follow this anatomy:
Show Name, Episode, Sequence, Your Initials, Version #
i.e. If you are working on Episode 201, sequence toaEscape, your name is Marie Lum, and this is the first version, the file name will be as follows:
BFP_201-toaEscape_ML_V01
Exporting for Pitching: Quicktime
Select Print Timecode and Print Scene names and Panel Numbers
For ease of Burn-In visibility, go to EDIT -> PREFERENCES and navigate to the tab for Import/Export and sync up to these options
If you would rather pitch by playing a rough video export, export under these settings. Please note: Do not feel the need to spend much time editing and playing with timing, as that is not within your requirements. If you would like to, feel free to, but know that it isn't expected.
To export Quicktime, go to FILE -> EXPORT -> MOVIE
Export Settings should be as follows:
Movie Format: .mov
Resolution: Half Size (960 x 540), this is just for your own ease of exporting faster and smaller file size.
Please include Burn-In for timecode and sequence numbers.
Exporting for Animatic Editors
We will export each panel individually and batch send to the animatic editors. These should be .PNG files. Go to FILE -> EXPORT -> BITMAP to open the bitmap export window.
File Pattern
Please input this formula into the File Pattern box:
BFP_EP-SEQUENCE_%3s-%2p
This formula will automatically name each scene and panel upon export. This will make your life way easier!
You will need to change the anatomy of the formula according to your Episode and Sequence.
Please replace EP with the three numbers according to your episode # (i.e. 201) and replace SEQUENCE with the name of your assigned sequence.
%3s is the formula that will automatically note your scene #s to three digits (i.e. 001, 002, 003...)
%2p is the formula that will automatically note your panel #s to two digits (i.e. 01, 02, 03...)
For example, if you are working on Episode 201, sequence toaEscape, you would change the formula to:
BFP_201-toaEscape_%3s_%2s
Bitmap Export Parameters
Bitmap Format: .png at Full Size (1920 x 1080)
Image Zoom Level (%): 100
Colour Space: Project Working Colour Space
Please check the boxes for Print Camera Frame and Include Camera Path. Please leave all other boxes unchecked. This will export camera movements for the animatic editors without sacrificing the full working space.
Please keep Burn-In OFF unless asked for. Please set Print Captions to NONE.
Easily Renaming Files
Inevitably, there will be hiccups with keeping files named properly. Please make sure they are named correctly and use Bulk Rename Utility if needed. This will allow you to batch rename multiple files quickly and efficiently. Following this naming convention will be crucial for the animatic editors to do their job as easily and quickly as possible!
